I have been going back to basics. Cutting back on costs of all those necessities we think we need to buy. I am here to tell you save money, make it yourself. Today Laundry detergent. Its so expensive to buy and then your turning around buying it again in no time. I made Just over 8 gallons in under an hour. Anyone can do it. Get the kids involved. You will need just a few ingredients you may already have. Any grocer or super store will have the items.

You can half this amount as well.

4 bars of soap I used Dial Power Berries Gycerin soup it smells lovely

4 cups borax

4 cups Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda Not baking soda

8 gallons water

1 big pot big enough for 2 gallons of water

Box grater

Clean empty containers for storing detergent

*essential oils if you want added smell. My soup was lovely enough.

Start by grating your bar soap. It took me only a few minutes. I had tried zest before and will stick with Dial glycerin soap. You can use fels naptha too. Up to you. Place your grated soap in your pot with a gallon of water. Turn heat to medium high and stir and heat until soap is completely melted. Add 2 cups borax stir until dissolved, add 2 cups washing soda stirring again to dissolved. Add in another gallon of water. Stir and you will notice it is coagulating. This is what you want. Now you have a concentrate. Add two more gallons of water to this batch and fill your containers. I use a bucket like the ones from homedepot the pour in my containers. Repeat previous steps for the next batch. Its a double batch . Might as well make a lot at once its so easy. Its just the two of us and 4 dogs inside so half a batch lasted almost 4 months. This should last us until fall/winter. Happy homemaking!
